Types of batteries

Batteries are something which we all use in our day to day. There are so many appliances that work with the help of batteries. Such appliances include calculators, radio, watches, and walkman and so on. Other category of products which use batteries are cars, forklifts and for providing electricity when there is a power cut off.  
Though the size of these batteries vary from one appliance to another but their basic structure and functionality is same. Batteries are themselves of different types. They are basically divided on the basis of their composition. Major batteries which are used are lead acid batteries, nickel cadmium batteries and lithium batteries. These batteries have specific uses and generally cannot replace one other.  
Lead acid battery is the one which is used in appliances which need high amount of power. Lead acid batteries are popularly known as batteries. Lithium batteries are disposable batteries which have applications in many different areas. Their most important use is in medical sector as they are used in artificial pace makers and other electronic devices which can be implanted in human body.
Other use of lithium batteries is in toys, cameras, calculator and many others. Nickel cadmium batteries have unique property of being recharged. One can recharge nickel cadmium batteries and thus they have longer life in comparison to other types of batteries. But these batteries are quite expensive and cannot be used just anywhere. Major uses of nickel cadmium batteries are in cell phones, power tools and model airplanes.
